Earth is a beautiful place. I am always trying to reduce my plastic consumption, weather that be using cloth diapers, taking reuseable bags to the grocery store, or buying second hand items. When we go to the beach we always are finding little pieces of plastic and picking them up. Don't get me wrong, plastic is good for things, but not everything!
Glass Dharma is a really cool company that has designed glass straws. Super neat, I know!
I have had the opportunity to sip through a glass straw. If you look on my drink posts I have a few smoothie recipes featuring these straws.

I try to avoid buying food that comes packaged in plastic, don't drink bottled water, use reusable containers instead of ziplock bags, and carry cloth shopping bags.
ReplyDeleteI bring my own bag to the grocery store! I posted this on my Fb page and twitter!
ReplyDeleteI bring my own cloth bags to the store, I try to buy minimally packaged products, I use reusable plastic containers at home instead of baggies, don't buy water bottles, I buy large containers of juice, etc and fill my own smaller containers for drinking and when I do use a freezer bag or baggie if it's in good shape I rinse it out, dry it and reuse it.
ReplyDeleteI always say NO to plastic bags: I am the crazy lady trying to juggle 15 soy yogurt cups in the parking lot because i forgot my reusable bag!
ReplyDeleteThese are excellent! I've been making the change to get rid of all plastic - no more plastic containers, just got some glass water bottles to replace my old Nalgene ones, etc... - but I hadn't seen the straws before! Even if I don't win the giveaway, I'm going to need to get me some of these :)
ReplyDeleteI love this giveaway! I do all the usual things - bring my own bags, favor re-usable containers over plastic baggies, never buy water bottles... :)
ReplyDeleteI love glass straws! And I recently made chocolate pudding using avocado. What a great concept! As for plastic reduction. My favorite thing is to clean out glass jars that use to have food in them, and use them as my to-go water containers. I also sewed some re-usable produce bags using tulle, which is a pretty see-through material. They are very pretty and lavender. :) I live in Hollywood, which is filthy and there is trash everywhere. So when I walk my dog I don't bother bringing a poop bag, because I know I will pick up a collection of bags on our walk.
ReplyDeleteThat looks awesome! In addition to the regular stuff (carry my own water bottle, use cloth grocery bags, buy in bulk) I also make sure to recycle the produce bags at the grocery (I should get some reusable mesh ones!) and re-wash ziploc bags for re-use.
ReplyDeleteWe reuse, reuse, reuse! I've been known to pack almost all leftovers in mason jars, and I love my lunchbox tiffin.
ReplyDeleteI have a soft spot for straws, though, so I'd be thrilled to own a pretty glass one!
Fabric grocery bags, but mostly packing both my son and my lunches everyday with glass containers, no plastic baggies needed! :-)
ReplyDeleteThis is a great giveaway, those glass straws are the best!!

I always carry reusable cloth bags with me for shopping. I also don't use any/many plastic produce bags at the grocery store (ie. for avocados, garlic, ginger, etc.) cuz you really don't need them!
ReplyDeleteI bring reusable tote bags for groceries.
ReplyDeleteI bring my own bags to the grocery store and carry a Sigg water can with me at all times!
ReplyDeleteI like Glass Dharma on Facebook!
ReplyDeleteI am all about reusables! I carry a Sigg water bottle, and take a work lunch daily in my cooler. It's a little more work than disposables, but so worth the effort :)
ReplyDeleteI use reusable bags everywhere (grocery store, Target, retail stores). I also recycle like it is my job.

ReplyDeleteBuying in bulk helps cut down on packaging immensely, and I also take my own reusable jars and containers to fill, so I don't use any packaging at all for many items (beans, rice, etc.). Of course, I love my tote bags also. :)

ReplyDeletewhat a lovely giveaway!
ReplyDeleteplastic is a huge consideration for us when shopping - if it's not in a glass jar or a paper bag we're not likely to purchase it. also we've never used straws in our household - they're simply too wasteful... but i'd sure love to sip from a reusable glass one!
i'm also following you on fb now :)
ReplyDeletetwitter too! xo
ReplyDeleteI chanced upon your blog yesterday and find this the perfect opportunity to say hello and thank you for a wonderful blog!
ReplyDeleteAs for plastics, I find that one way to drastically cut plastic usage at home is to eliminate plastic wrap, plastic zipper bags and the like. I went to the thrift store and found glass containers with glass lids which we now use for leftovers and such, as well as no longer using these items in my children's lunch boxes. MY kids take stainless steel containers and a reusable thermos now. Oh, and they love their "real" forks and spoons!
I always carry my lunch in a lunch box and I bring my own bags to t he grocery store. I try to reduce waste where ever I can. reusable straws would be an excellent addition.

ReplyDeleteI liked glass dharma on FB too!
ReplyDeleteI only use a reusable water bottle :)
ReplyDeleteSo in agreement about reducing plastic waste! I always take my reusable shopping bags to the farmers market and supermarket, I try to buy things without a lot of packaging, I use a metal water bottle, and try not to use plastic wrap. Probably a few other things, but can't think of them right now! Beautiful glass straws, BTW!

I've switched from cheap, $1 store plastic lunch containers to air-tight stainless steel ones. They're slightly pricey, but I feel a lot better about using them. I had a bad habit of throwing out the plastic ones. But I've had the metal ones for at least 5 years now.
ReplyDeleteIn the fridge, I've cut out storing food in any kind of plastic. I use glass instead.
I bring my own bags to the grocery store. I hope to soon make my own product bags so I don't have to use the ones from the store.
While I recently purchased a set of stainless steel straw-spoons, I'd love to grow my collection with a set of glass ones!
I carry my water around in stainless steel, use plastic food packaging for art projects with my son, and decline plastic bags at stores whenever possible.
ReplyDeleteWow, I would love to win these. I reduce my plastic waste by always carrying my Sigg water bottle so I don;t need to buy plastic & I never get plastic bags when I shop, I have a huge collection of cute tote's! I also keep empty glass jars & use them as storage containers rather than using plastic.
ReplyDeleteWe're phasing our our plastic storage containers and moving to glass, as well as using stainless steel water containers instead of bottled water.
ReplyDeletegreat giveaway! one way i reduce my plastic waste is by skipping on the small produce bags at the market.
ReplyDeleteHow fun! I reduce my plastic use by reusing any plastic I buy whether it be bags or bottles. I never buy drinks packaged in bottles and I love using my beautiful cloth produce/shopping bags! They are so much nicer than the plastic ones anyways. Oh, and my metal waterbottle is another favorite of mine.
ReplyDeleteHealthy blessings to all <3
We use glass containers for storage, lunches and just about everything.
ReplyDeleteI mostly buy Mason Jars and the white plastic lids - they are perfect for lunches - food, drinks, dips etc. We also love to hit 2nd hand stores and yard sales to find things we need rather than purchasing new. We also donate or sell items that no longer need - this prolongs their life and helps someone in need <3

ReplyDeleteI use containers for everything that I take to work, or cute little reusable sandwich wraps or snack pouches. I also always take green bags to the grocery store, and have some reusable fruit and vegetable bags too.
ReplyDeleteI try to use reusable contains whenever I can, preferably glass. One thing I really want to start doing is getting some reusable grocery bags.

ReplyDeleteI've actually been looking for these glass straws for a while - glad to finally find them!
ReplyDeleteI think my favourite is my reusable grocery bags. I keep them handy and use them for just about everything!
We buy everything we can in bulk, and use our own glass jars to purchase it. Being able to eliminate packaging is a major consideration in our purchases.
